Brief History Govt. City College, Chittagong started its journey sixty years ago on the premises of Chittagong Law College. The college was setup as a night college with a noble vision of spreading the light of education among those who are deprived of that light. With the passage of time, the college has grown up as one of the premier educational institution in Chittagong. The college now runs Higher secondary course, Degree(Pass), Degree(Hons.) in 15 Subjects and masters in 15 subject. More than 12000 students under 128 highly qualified teachers are pursing higher education. Situated at the heart of Chittagong city, today Govt. City College, Chittagong has established itself as an exemplary institution with its high academic standard, congenial atmosphere for education, hearty relationship between teachers and students and continuous effort to ensure quality education. The alumni of the college have excelled in different profession home and abroad. The goal of the college is to provide quality education to the students in order to equip them with the knowledge and skill necessary to face the challenges of the 21st century . To the students, this institution is like Plato’s Academia or Aristotle’s Lyceum. To achieve the goal and ideals of the college and to ameliorate the academic standard, a number of steps have been taken which include counseling service, tutorial examination, evaluation of presence in the class, extra classes for weak students, vigilance team and guardian meeting etc. From the infrastructural point of view, the college is facing problem but regarding the result of the public and university examination, it carries a glorious tradition. The performance in Board and University examinations the percentage of passing is from 95% to 100% and every year a good number of students get A+ and first class. Apart from its academic performance, the college is not behind in extra curriculum activities. BNCC, Ranger Guide, Rover Scout, Red Crescent Youth are very active in their activities and participate in different programs in college and national level. Sports and cultural programs and competition are regularly held to hunt new talent and the college ensure a lively environment for the students to the way of prosperity. Moreover the college offers Bangladesh Open University administered H.S.C., B.A./B.S.S. and B.B.A. programs. The main Campus consists of four multi-storied building, one under construction high rise building, shaheed Minar, Three Storied Mosque and Girls Hostel. The college administration is striving continuously to expand and ensure the growing facilities to make the college an ideal institution in the country.
