With a diligent effort and ceaseless endeavour of Ex-District Commissioner Late Ali Haidar Khan, Karnafuli College was established in 1978 at Kaptai Sub-Division of the then Chittagong Hill Tracts at a fascinating natural environment of hills and river. From the time of establishment this institution acquires remarkable positions in public examinations as well as different curriculums such as sports and games, culture and social activities. It has a pleasant infrastructure with a delightful communication system. Thousands of less-convenient tribal and non-tribal students of hilly areas like Bilichari, Rajsthali, Kaukhali, Borkol, Juraichori etc. are studying here at H.S.C and Degree (pass) level maintaining a smooth communal amity. It is enriched with a Science Laboratory and Library. Karnafuli College has a suitable atmosphere for study having 33 teachers and 11 office staffs at present.
