Haluaghat Shahid Smriti Degree College is located at Haluaghat upazila under the district of Mymensingh. In those days Haluaghat inhabited by ethnic minorities was educationally undeveloped. In such a situation this college was established in 1972 as an intermediate college with humanities and commerce group and later science group was introduced in 1982. It is mentionable that spreading the light of education in this educationally backward locality, the college opened up an opportunity of higher education for the poor by introducing B.A & B.S.S (pass) course in degree level on 1st July, 1987 while B.sc (pass) course was introduced on 1st July, 2002 and B.B.S (pass) course was introduced on 1st July, 2004. At present necessary steps are being taken so that honours course can be introduced in this college under National University.The institution has already earned its reputation as an excellent centre of examination by holding H.S.C & Degree(pass)Examinations free from any unfair means. The results of both H.S.C & Degree (pass) Examinations of this college are always satisfactory so far.
