Government Safar Ali College, nearest to the capital city of Dhaka, was established in Araihazar, Narayangonj in 1973 and nationalized in 1992. Engineer Alhaz Safar Ali Miah, a philanthropist and the then Member of the Parliament, first founded this college on 4.87 acre of land with a view to accelerating higher education. This is the only one government college in this region. Govt. Safar Ali College is now a degree level honours teaching college affiliated to the National University since 2012
